Rooted in NKU: New Alumni Board Leaders Reflect on Their 麻豆宿舍电视剧Journey

Hannah Wayne

C. Alyse Bender Hoffer's 麻豆宿舍电视剧 story began long before she arrived on campus as a first-year student. Growing up, she often joined her father, J. David Bender, at 麻豆宿舍电视剧basketball games, sports camps and homecoming events. He is also a double graduate of 麻豆宿舍电视剧and the Salmon P. Chase College of Law, and later served as president of the 麻豆宿舍电视剧Alumni Association Board of Directors. At the time, he had no idea that his daughter would one day follow so closely in his footsteps. NKU's campus was part of her childhood landscape, a place where she watched possibilities unfold. When it came time to choose a college, the decision felt natural.

"Norse blood runs deep in my family," Hoffer says. "麻豆宿舍电视剧has been a part of my life since I was little, and the university created a strong foundation of success for my family and me."

That foundation grew during her undergraduate years, studying speech communication and political science. She threw herself into campus life, participating in Greek life, leadership societies, the student government association and eventually being elected student body president for her senior year. The people she met and the opportunities she embraced kept her rooted at NKU.

Hoffer remembers late-night study sessions on campus, celebrations in her University Suites dorm room, and the relationships she built with professors and staff who challenged her to think critically and lead with purpose. One professor in particular, Dr. Russell Proctor, remains especially memorable. 鈥淗e was a tough but compassionate professor who challenged me, supported me, and advocated for me鈥, she says. 鈥淗is courses, especially his interviewing course, taught me practical skills that I still use and share with others today.鈥

Hoffer's most unforgettable 麻豆宿舍电视剧memory came on her undergraduate commencement day. As student body president and the student regent, she was invited to sit on stage right alongside her father, who was the president of the 麻豆宿舍电视剧Alumni Association Board of Directors at the time.

"My dad and I processed in together," she says. "He delivered the alumni welcome speech. Sharing that moment with him is something I will never forget."

After graduating, she continued her 麻豆宿舍电视剧journey at the Salmon P. Chase College of Law before beginning her career as an attorney. Today, she is a Partner at Frost Brown Todd LLP in Cincinnati, where she specializes in commercial real estate and also chairs the firm's Women's Initiative.

Now, as the newly elected president of the 麻豆宿舍电视剧Alumni Association Board of Directors, Hoffer sees an opportunity to give back to the community that shaped her.

"Our goal is to build meaningful connections that support current and future alumni through targeted education, intentional programming and laser-focused action," she says. "We hope this energy creates a strong network that intertwines the past with the future."

Michael Ruscher

For Michael Ruscher, 麻豆宿舍电视剧wasn't his first plan. With intentions to attend another university in the Commonwealth, he couldn't ignore the feeling that kept tugging him back home. As a lifelong northern Kentuckian, he grew up just down the road from 麻豆宿舍电视剧and ultimately chose a path that allowed him to stay connected to his roots. Looking back, he calls it "the best decision I ever made."

Ruscher earned his degree in English literature with a minor in journalism in 1994. His favorite memories include long afternoons studying on the quiet bottom floor of Steely Library and sitting on the steps overlooking Loch Norse, where he often found space to think.

He still laughs when recalling one of his proudest moments as a student鈥攚inning the intramural basketball championship his senior year. "I think I still have that T-shirt," he jokes.

He speaks fondly of professors who sparked his curiosity, especially Dr. Danny Miller and Dr. James Ramage, whose passion for literature and history was infectious and drew students in, Ruscher says. That enthusiasm helped shape him into a lifelong learner and eventually a storyteller. Today, he writes for the Horizon Roundtable, covering baseball and women's basketball.

After graduation, Ruscher launched a career in sales and now works as an inside sales manager with Prysmian, which neighbors NKU's campus. He continues to cheer on the Norse whenever he can, often attending games with his wife of 31 years.

As the new vice president of the 麻豆宿舍电视剧Alumni Association Board of Directors, he hopes to help 麻豆宿舍电视剧grow while preserving the welcoming atmosphere that defined his own experience.

"I want 麻豆宿舍电视剧to continue to expand its programs and opportunities," he says, "but in a way that doesn't lose the small school feel that makes it unique."

Together, Hoffer and Ruscher represent two distinct 麻豆宿舍电视剧experiences but still share a deep commitment to the university and a belief that strong alumni engagement can transform the future of the university and its graduates. Both are eager to strengthen connections, build community and support students who are forging their own 麻豆宿舍电视剧stories. And for both, stepping into new leadership roles is not just an honor, it's a continuation of their Norse legacy.
