Graduating Year: 2024

Education: B.S. in Geology, Minor in Biological Sciences

“When I joined the geology program at NKU, I was largely interested in  paleontology. I am thankful that I not only got to expand that interest, but grow several related interests and gain necessary skills to further my career. The faculty put students first, and the smaller class sizes allow students to learn material at a more individualized pace. Most importantly, I had a number of absolutely imperative experiences that really pushed my career forward, including numerous field trips, studying abroad in England and Scotland, and doing undergraduate research I could present at a large conference. I am grateful for NKU’s geology program giving me the experiences and skills necessary to enter a PhD program at Virginia Tech and pursue vertebrate paleobiology further!"

Career: Paleontology PhD Student

Necessary job skills: Strong reading and writing, critical thinking, oral communication, and computer literacy.

Education: B.S. in Engineering Physics - Mechatronics Engineering Tech Track; B.A. in Physics; Minor in Mathematics

"This department goes above and beyond for the students making sure the success and wellbeing of each and every student is their TOP priority. The small class sizes allow the professors to build relationships with the students, in this department you will never be just a number.

I got into Automation because it’s a field that changes constantly and encompasses so many different forms of engineering. It is a great option for those who have trouble deciding which type of engineering they like best. Why choose when you can do it all!"

Career: Automation Engineer at E Tech Group

There are so many options in the field of engineering but few offer the opportunity to do multiple disciplines in one. An automation engineer combines mechanical, electrical, software, networking, robotics, manufacturing, and many other forms of engineering. The field is changing constantly and is applicable throughout industry, allowing for professional growth and a changing work environment. This field provides problem solving challenges every day and even larger rewards.

“I entered NKU’s Geology program with only vague goals of wanting to work outdoors and to have an interesting career after college. The faculty and classes in the Geology program helped equip me with the skills necessary for obtaining meaningful employment after college—first with the U.S. Forest Service in Alaska and now with the U.S. Geological Survey in Florida. I encourage students to consider the Geology program, as it helps begin your journey to an exciting career in the natural sciences!â€
