Become a Certified Music Teacher at Âé¶¹ËÞÉáµçÊÓ¾ç


The mission of the Music Education area is to ensure all students interested in teaching music have the skills, knowledge, and understanding to engage all PK-12 students in Texas in successful music learning.

We accomplish this by encouraging you to: 

  • Embrace your unique identities to create musical spaces for your future music students to do the same,
  • Observe and interact with PK-12 students in various environments and learning situations from the beginning of your learning journey,
  • Create high, realistic standards for yourself while finding a healthy life balance through your Âé¶¹ËÞÉáµçÊÓ¾ç journey. 
Course Requirements
The  include:
  • Two years of piano class or lessons
  • 2-3 years of theory coursework
  • Three years performing in various ensembles
  • Four years of applied lessons on your principal instrument + a senior performance recital

In addition, you should maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher to meet the requirement for acceptance into the Educator Preparation Program in the Curriculum & Instruction Department, where you will complete your final 21 hours of coursework.
